Band

Duffy Primary has a Year 5 and a Year 6 Woodwind Band. We are one of 60 ACT primary schools who participate in the Instrumental Music Program (IMP) who conduct learning and teaching programs across the ACT. Students in year 4 undergo a school-based teacher lead assessment to highlight suitable students who are then offered a place in the year 5 band. Students in our year 5 band will in turn progress to our year 6 band. Each band has approximately 22 students. For information about this program please visit IMP. Students will be requested to contribute to costs associated with this program including tuition, instrument hire, music sheets and bus transport to and from combined band practices at other participating schools or offsite school band performances.

Before School Playground Safety Rules and Requirements

School Gates opened from 8.30 am

Our school gates will be opened from 8.30 am each morning. Please do not enter the school through the front office before school begins at 9.00 am unless you have an appointment or business to conduct with front office staff.

We recommend that children begin to arrive at school approximately 10-15 minutes before the start of the school day at 9.00 am and assemble outside their classroom. In the event of inclement weather, children will be called to proceed under cover or inside the building as appropriate.

Safety rules and procedures before school

If you are regularly required to drop your child off at school before 8.30 am, it is recommended that to ensure their safety, you make arrangements for them to attend and be cared for in the Out of School Hours Care Program, please contact Woden Community Services.

Preschool student drop off and pick up

The designated Preschool drop off is located on Burrinjuck Crescent. Teacher supervision starts at 9am, parent must supervise their child until 9am. Students must be delivered to preschool staff by parents or carers.

Drop off and Pick up Zone

Duffy Primary has a designated drop off and pick up area just as you enter the school grounds at the front of the school.  Please be aware that start and end of school times are extremely busy and drivers should move on quickly and safely as is possible.

This area is a No Stopping Zone. Drivers are asked not park and leave vehicles unattended in this area at any time. If you are required to leave your car unattended please park in one of the designated parking areas in the carpark or on the street kerbside.

Behaviour Management

Duffy Primary School behaviour management procedures follow the ACT Education Safe and Supportive Schools Policy which provides guidance for Canberra public schools on promoting a safe, respectful and supportive school community. This includes the rights and responsibilities for all stakeholders including students, school staff, parents and carers.

We are committed to providing positive and engaging environments where children feel connected and respected, achieve success and are fully engaged in education. Student wellbeing impacts on student learning and is fundamental to a student’s successful engagement with education.

Procedures are in place to manage minor and major behaviour disruptions both inside and outside the classroom using the Restorative Practice Guide.

Communication between parents and school is important when children's behaviour indicates that this is necessary. It is important for you to talk to your child's classroom teacher, year level executive or the principal if you think their schoolwork or behaviour may be affected in some way by circumstances not known to the school such as serious family illness or changes in family circumstances.

If you have any concerns about or notice changes in your child's behaviour at home, please do not hesitate to contact the school to make an appointment to speak with a member of our staff.  You can email your child's class teacher or contact the front office by phone or email to arrange a suitable time to meet.
