EXEC TEAM'S MESSAGE

Dear Duffy Primary School Community,

It’s hard to believe it’s week 10 and school holidays are upon us. Duffy staff wish to thank each and every one of you for your connection to our school and for the commitment and hard work you show every day in supporting your children to be ready for learning. We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable break, refreshed and ready to come back for a busy term 4.

PBL Hero Morning Tea

We had the pleasure of hosting our second ever PBL Hero morning tea with our outstanding students who achieved our highest PBL reward level. Congratulations to all the students whose exceptional positive behaviours have contributed to making our great school even greater.

Car Park Safety

Road safety is a shared responsibility, it is important the road rules are followed near and within our school to ensure the entire school community feels safe.

Please remember children are more at risk than adults around schools because they are smaller and less visible to drivers. They are also less predictable and less experienced, which makes them more likely to make errors of judgement.

Failing to follow simple road rules like parking on verges, in no stopping zones, in bus stops, near children’s crossings, on footpaths or across driveways increases the risk to children around schools. Please do the right thing to create a safe environment around our school.

With every best wish for a wonderful holidays with your beautiful families.

Regards,

Katie, Arilia, Sarah and Katie

SPOTLIGHT ON LEARNING - YEAR 6

Market Day

Year 6 have worked hard all term to create a business for our Market Day which raises money for the Year 6 Graduation. We collected data by surveying students from across the school around what stalls they would like to see on the day. We sourced our products and equipment needed for the day, created an advertising campaign for our stalls, learned about the importance of merchandising and customer service skills and examined the trade-offs required when operating a business. We have learned so much from this unit of work and year 6 did a great job on the day to deliver what many have called the best Market Day ever!

Health Infographic

In health lesson we have been deepening our understanding of the world around us. Year 6 have examined the changing identities of our community and the impact of racism on individuals and our community as a whole.  Students created an infographic displaying what they have learned.

Obstacle Course

On the last day of the term we used our collaboration skills to create an obstacle course. Each group created a challenge and students moved across the course to complete them. It was a fun way to end the term!

50th Birthday Party Picnic

2023 is Duffy Primary School’s 50th birthday!!! To celebrate, the P&C is hosting a birthday party picnic and all current and former Duffy PS families are invited to attend.

SAVE THE DATE!

Saturday 28 October 2023

3.00 – 7.00pm

Highlights

The 50th birthday party picnic will be an opportunity to gather as a broader community and celebrate 50 fabulous years of the school. There will be oval games, sausage sizzle, kids’ activities, and a special formal unveiling of our new mural at the front of the school.

Volunteers

Events like this are only possible with the assistance of parent and community volunteers. We are hoping to have a range of stalls and activities and would greatly appreciate even small amounts of time to help with the organising and running of these.

We have divided the stalls between year levels and are calling for parent volunteers to coordinate their year level stall:

There is a volunteer sign up sheet for the coordinator and parent volunteers available at volunteersignup.org/94KWP. Sadly, if we don’t get a coordinator or enough parent volunteers to cover a stall, we won’t be able to hold that stall. The coordination role isn’t huge, it just involves thinking through the logistics of the stall (location, items needed) and working with P&C representatives to advertise to the school.

If you have any questions please contact duffyps50birthdaypicnic@gmail.com. Please also contact us if you have another stall idea that you want to run. Volunteering is a great way to support the school and meet other families and people in the community 😊

The P&C will run a sausage sizzle and is exploring other food options as well.

More information about the picnic will be provided via the P&C and School Facebook pages and upcoming editions of the newsletter.

Colouring Competition

This week your child will bring home a page to colour in for the 50th birthday colouring competition. The pages are due back to school by Friday 13 October. The colouring pages will be judged and the winners announced at the Picnic. If you need another copy of the colouring sheet, you can find it at the below QR code:
