Principal's Welcome

I am pleased to welcome you to Duffy Primary.  I hope that the years your family shares with us will be rewarding.  Working in close cooperation with you, our school is able to offer your child a rich learning experience.

Duffy Primary offers a stimulating learning environment in spacious teaching units.  Classes have ready access to Information Communication Technology within each unit and to a well-resourced Library Resource Centre.  There is a strong focus on the performing and visual Arts and Information Communication Technologies in the school.  New interactive whiteboards in classes engages our students in E-learning while the Corin Arts Centre provides an ideal area for classes to participate in visual and performing arts activities.

All students from Kindergarten to Year 6 are involved in a wide range of learning activities including excursions, camps, music and dance activities, and a range of sporting clinics as well as a lunchtime chess.  Environmental studies are the focus of the school’s Waste Wise Program with the Enviro Machine Team of students leading the school’s recycling and regeneration program.

The school’s DEEP Program provides enrichment and extension activities through student involvement in challenging projects such as Tournament of Minds, Rostrum, University of NSW English, Maths and Science Competitions, Creative Writing Competitions (Canberra Times, Nestle, Dorothy MacKeller) and Art and Design Competitions.  The school also participates in the Woden Weston Gifted and Talented Education Program.

Each student's progress is closely monitored.  The Special Needs Team meets weekly to monitor student welfare needs and the learning support and extension needs of all students.   Each child is valued as an individual and is encouraged to develop self-esteem with an appreciation and understanding of the needs of others.  All professional staff is committed to guiding children to become self-disciplined, with a concern for local and global issues.

Consultation with the school community is an integral part of the formulation of new school policies and close cooperation with the community enhances the quality of the daily life of the school.  It is in this spirit of partnership, of cooperation and consultation with a committed community nurturing a caring school that we are truly able to foster excellence, equity and esteem.

I trust you will enjoy all that Duffy Primary School has to offer your family and that you will be involved in the activities of the school community.  My door is open to any ideas or concerns that you have, so please feel you can meet with me at anytime by arrangement.
